Christmas Eve 2012

Christmas Eve started out in a wonderful way here in the Petersberger Household with something of a Super Hero themed birthday party being thrown for Shark. We have these birthday/tea party/picnics fairly often around here. They are quite sentimental to me because the picnic blanket that we always use is the one made by Grandma Betty, my mother's mother, Nick's great-grandmother who passed away this May.

All of the attendees were asked with don their capes. Yes, Mom had made various capes for some of Nick's best, stuffed friends. Seriously, I did (see below).

Nick has a play birthday cake that comes with jelly beans, gum drops, strawberries and candles with which you can adorn the cake. It can also be sliced into pieces (Velcro is a wonderful thing) and served to your guests. So, Nick created a sugary masterpiece for Shark's 11th birthday, and much fun was had Christmas Eve morning.

The first photo is Guest of Honor, Shark, in his Spiderman cape. Followed by Nick blasting me for daring to take his photo.

Here is an aerial view of the birthday party picnic. Moving clockwise we have a cheesing Batman, Barky the puppy as Robin, the guest of honor, Shark as Spidey, Batman's Baterang, Socks the cat as Super Socks, Monkey is Flash, and barely seen next to Nick, is Blue Bear as Green Lantern.

Auntie's Baltimore Christmas Eve Service

My Hubby's sister is a minister in Maryland and each year on Christmas Eve we drive up to see her wonderful service. For the past three years, we have attended the children's service which Nick really enjoys. It is really cute to witness how excited he gets when he spots his aunt. Last year he waved, pointed, and smiled as Auntie spoke. This year he waved and managed to sneak in a hug after the kids got to decorate an ornament and hang it on the tree.

Can I hug Auntie? Pleeease.
What a face! He's humoring me.

I'm really holding it all by myself!
"Fiya" is mesmerizing.

Our Afghan Christmas Eve Tradition

I don't know that you can consider something you've done only twice a tradition, but I'm putting it out there because I'd like it to be. Both last year and this year, after driving home from Baltimore, we stopped in Bethesda at an amazing Afhgan restaurant. Everyone knows of my obsession with pumpkin, and year round they serve their spectacular Kadu that I order each and every time I eat there. Well, as it turns out Nick loves the Kadu as much as I do.

Enjoying the Christmas Kadu.
